Words by Ricardo Hernandez.
Sometimes a good remix is hard to come by, whether the song being remixed has been completely changed and leaves the listener yearning for some of the tidbits of the original track or it just keeps the same consistency and offers nothing new. Sometimes remixes can be taboo in the music industry leaving the artist angry at the sound engineers or band mates creating rifts in their relationships. Other times a label might want the band to change the sound of the recording so they can mold them into what (the label) want’s leaving fans angry and bands angry. This can truly be said for the Electronic Music world, many producers and dj’s are renowned for their remixing abilities (Soulwax, Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, Justin Martin, to name a few). The duty of remixing can be daunting and almost as important as the original single being released. But there’s one group of international producers/artists/dj’s who always comes to mind when I think original, beautiful, complete 180, consistent remixes. Remix Artist Collective or RAC was founded in ‘07 by André Allen Anjos (Portugal) alongside partners Andrew Maury ( New York) and Karl Kling (Portland). Gaining notoriety for their slew of indie dancefloor friendly mixes for bands like Two Door Cinema Club, Surfer Blood, Delorean, Ra Ra Riot and Washed Out. Currently André Allen Anjos has taken the reigns of the project now in which he released a solo track called“Hollywood” released on Green Label Sound featuring Penguin Prison’s Chris Glover and “ Let Go” featuring Kele from Bloc Party.
